Time Sheet Server Requirements™

This document outlines the IT infrastructure requirements for Server hosting of the Timesheet application.

Introduction

The Server requirements for the deployment of the Timesheeting system are:

Windows 2008 Server - 400MB disk space.
SQL Database Server - connectivity is required to GGHOAPP06.

Server Configuration

The server configuration consists of two components:

Disk space to host the application and its local (proprietary database)
1 Windows service - the database manager for the proprietary database

The requirement for the Service will be removed once the completed application is completely migrated to SQL.

Local (Office) Workstation Configuration

The local workstations access the application by starting up an executable (pforce.exe).

To access the executable from the workstation, you may use either a static drive mapping or UNC drive mapping.

Each workstation that is to utilise the application the registration of a number of .ocx files
These files are located in the working directory of the application.
Under workstation versions greater than Microsoft Vista, there will be a requirement to elevate the user to Administrator rights to complete the .ocx registration.

Web Service

The deployment of the web based data entry screens will require the use Apache to serve as the static file server.
The application environment for deployment is called Ruby on Rails, and will require installation on the server. The details of this framework can be found at : http://rubyonrails.org/. The application environment serves only as a mechanism to route user requests to the correct database.

Getting a Clean runtime Environment

The Timesheet system runs on a runtime environment called OpenInsight from www.revelation.com.

To obtain a clean copy of the environment, download the current runtime from the following link.
On the same page, in middle of the screen is a link to obtaining an evaluation licence for the runtime. Click on this link and complete the form to obtain an evaluation version of the runtime environment.

This will provide for a deployment of the correct and most current environment. PowerForce will then apply the application upload to this runtime environment to install the Georgiou Timesheet application.
